St. John the Baptist School The Start of Something Great!

St. John’s School is accepting students in Pre - K 3 & 4, full day Kindergarten through Grade 8. Small class sizes offer our students the advantage of individual attention. In addition to the core academic subjects we offer Physical Education, Computer/Technology, Library, Art, Music and Spanish. Students with special needs receive Remedial Reading and Remedial Math through St. John the Baptist School and Resource Room and Speech Services through the Public School District. St. John’s offers a variety of After School Clubs such as Art, Volunteer Club Yearbook and School Newspaper. We offer a wide variety of sports for students to participate in.

Wacky Wednesday Valentines Cards for the Veterans

The students at St. John the Baptist School enjoyed their celebration of Catholic Schools Week on Wednesday, January 28th by dressing up for Wacky Wednesday, in their most creative wacky way. The classes got together with their classroom buddies to make their Valentine cards for our local Veterans.

I have a dream...

Ms. Gramza's first grade class, at St. John the Baptist; has been learning about Martin Luther King Jr. They have discussed how he was a leader, and the events in his life. The first graders learned about Dr. King's famous, "I have a dream" speech. Each of the students then wrote about their own dream.

Common Core at St John's

Common Core at St John's

The seventh grade class, at St. John the Baptist, recently completed the module released by engageNY called, “Journeys and Survival”. Throughout the module we read the anchor text, A Long Walk to Water. This book discussed the hardships that Southern Sudanese people face in their everyday lives. We were able to sympathize with the situation in Sudan through the accounts of the two main characters in the book. We learned, as we progressed through the text, that one of the characters is a real person. The information in Salva’s stories left us with hope. This hope grew into motivation, especially after we finished the novel and learned more about Salva’s non-for-profit organization called “Water for South Sudan”. After being inspired by Salva’s dedication and perseverance, the students in the seventh grade class felt a need to give back.

Genetics and Puppies

Genetics and Puppies

The 7th grade students in Mrs. Murty's Life Science class at St. John the Baptist School recently studied how traits are passed on from parents to offspring in their genetics unit. The students took pictures of dogs and analyzed the observable traits to then simulate what the probable outcomes would be if certain dogs were to breed. The students had fun learning about probability and visualizing the possible puppies.
